We are pleased to welcome Mike Mistretta and the superb team at Sacramento-based Mistretta Associates, who join the rapidly growing Farpointe Family after spending the last twelve years at Avantax.
Mike has a fantastic backstory about how he came to join the advice profession. His father owns a CPA firm, and sixteen years ago for a college class project Mike drafted a business plan for adding integrated wealth management to the firm. Several years after graduating, Mike obtained his securities and CPA licenses and, with twists and turns along the way, he has spent the last 16 years implementing that plan.
Mistretta Associates is a family-based firm that prides itself on being the professional their clients can lean on whether they are facing complex business issues or important personal financial decisions. Being able to help clients with all facets of their financial lives “completes the circle,” enabling them to work with someone they trust and reduce disjointed advice that can result from using multiple providers.
When asked why he transitioned his business, Mike said he wanted to leverage the Farpointe team’s extensive experience working with CPAs, and the firm’s proprietary and personalized practice management consulting. He needed first-class support for the next phase of his growth story, but felt like he was “treading water” and, as he put it, “I was stuck and didn’t have time to wait around for them to notice me.” He was impressed with Cetera’s comprehensive fee-based platform and “more robust tools to serve clients the way I want to.” He also craved the meaningful connection to a group of like-minded professionals that exists through the Farpointe advisor community.
Mike has two teenage sons who occupy most of his time away from the office. When he has free time he enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, traveling with his loved ones, cooking and working around the yard.
